LED Technology
WHAT IS LED?
LED stands for "
Light Emitting Diode
"
A LED is a plastic-sealed semi-conductor with phosphorus coating that emits light when an electric current is passed through it
It is not a bulb and does not use a filament
LEDs are made without glass
The light is not created by heat, it is emitted directly from electrons (cold light)
LEDs are extremely energy efficient: a common light bulb only converts 10% of electricity into light, 90% is wasted energy. A LED however converts
40% - 50% into light
MEASURES OF COMPARISON
Millimeter
Indicates the size of the LED in diameter
Watts
Measures the electrical power consumption by a light
Lumens (lm)
Most dependable measure of luminous intensity. The “standard” measure of the total light output
Lux (lx)
Measure of the illuminance: shows how many lumens per square meter are reaching a certain surface (1lx=
𝑙𝑚
/
𝑚2
). The Lux value is the most common known photometric unit and indicates very clearly the lightning condition at a special location
Candela (cd)
Unit of the luminous intensity. It’s the power emitted by a light source in a particular direction. A common candle emits light with a luminous intensity of roughly one candela (=1 lx in distance of 1 meter)
BENEFITS
OF LEDs
Resistant to shock and vibration
Long Service Life up to 100,000 hours
Smallest dimension
Low power consumption
Instant light when switched on
No UV or IR radiation
High color saturation without filtering
DID YOU KNOW?
LEDs contain no mercury, are extremely energy efficient and at least
90% of a LED is recyclable*

INNOVATION
COB TECHNOLOGY
COB stands for
CHIP ON BOARD
and is a new technology of LED packaging for LED light engine in the high performance area
COB LED is an LED illuminant which consists of an variable amount of LED chips
These multiple LED Chips are glued directly onto a ceramic or aluminium board
Many advantages result from that structure:
Superior thermal performance for increased life, stability and reliability
Flat and compact design
High brightness
High energy efficiency
Very long lifetime (up to 100,000h)
